Captain America colors by ChristopherStevens Captain America colors by ChristopherStevens
I haven't braved the color markers in a while. They take a while and I'm never sure what the end result will be. I need to get back to them. When things work out, the results can be pretty cool. I did this one a while ago. I wanted to do a Cap and decided to take another shot as color again.

Copic and Prismacolor markers with white watercolor on vellum bristol board.

You are the next best thing to Travest Charest. Travest can be a bit more easily typed as a master of the pen. His obsession with making the most tiny fine line beautiful made him unique and almost impossible to copy. Your command of your materials, whatever they are, as well as a unique singular, unique view makes you the same. I love your work.

I like how his chest isn't swollen to grotesque proportions like most other Cap pics.

White water color?  Are you using the watercolor over the markers?  If so that is a neat trick.  Always thought of using white prismacolor pencil not water color.  Gosh color markers can make things expensive!! LOL

I do indeed use the watercolor on top of the marker. I started with color pencil, but I prefer watercolor now.

This is definitely one of my favourite pieces of yours. Love the stern expression and the staunch pose. Cap looks so solid, and that shield is friggin perfect. Totally awesome!

Awesome work.

So, do you put the white watercolor over the markers when you're done, or before, or all throughout the process?

I do a layer of markers, then I paint over that and then go back over it with marker. Thanks!

Thanks. It is paint! The watercolor washes I add give the texture to it that makes it feel like more than a marker piece.
