Bot oil painting 2 by ChristopherStevens Bot oil painting 2 by ChristopherStevens
Yeah, another Bot piece. I like painting the little guy, but the next one will be something different.

This one was a serious learning experience. Much bigger than the first and just a lot more complicated in general. I still feel like someone walking around in the dark with this medium, but it's nice in that everything I do is a good lesson. Just when I think I'm understanding something, the paint will do something weird or unexpected and I just have to learn and adapt as I go. It's a medium that can do anything. It's been a great experience so far.

Just wait until you discover liquin. The paint can go on the board so slick and thin.

I feel ya, I've been starting with oils recently as well, it's a tough medium to get used to after using digital coloring for so long.

Yeah, traditional anything will give you a tough time. Especially if you're accustomed to digital.

Imagine when you hit the # 25 mark, well, ... The 50ish mark CUZ this is just the beginning ANd the learning process NEVER stops!

I have done over 250 oils by now AS Commissions/Jobs and still learn gobs of new information with EACH painting I endeavor into. ;)

Nice job Chris:highfive:

Thanks, bro. It isn't always pretty. You should've seen me flip out and hit one of my paintings with a flying tiger knee the other day. Broke that bitch in half. I might post a couple canvas pieces that I abandoned. It's been a rough start, but I'm learning a lot.

Its your struggle that makes me want to pick your brain all the more. The last person I want to learn from is someone that its "easy" for. I know a lot of people here are salivating to see and hear more as you go along. MORE!!!!!!

Easy. Yeah, I've heard that word used to describe a medium before and I don't get that. You're doing someone wrong if you think any medium is "easy". Judging by the views and comments, I don't think people are digging the paintings nearly as much as my markers, but this is the path I'm and I feel a need t follow it.

The piece I'm working on now is truly a struggle.

Thanks. I'm trying to be fearless, but there's always a bit if that there. Maybe it's a good sign if I'm a bit intimidated.

If so than I'm in a good place cause I've always been intimidated by paint. Oil, acrylic, water colors, you name it...lol

I think something is coming out from this experience you're having man...And you even gave a name to it...Please consider the idea of doing a series of paintings or maybe turning this into a sequential something?:)

Thanks. I've had a concept for a few years now that I dream about turning into a graphic novel. It will be a ton of work and require a year or so of my life, so I havent taken that next step yet.

Funny Randy. Guess the Cindy Lauper references are getting harder and harder to pull off with kids these days! Haha.

Yeah, pretty vague. Just when I think all that old '80s stuff is dead it pops back up. Tons of kids where I live wearing all that neon pink and yellow!

By the way, I will be completing a ceremony this weekend to steal all your talent and put it in my body... hope thats okay. :)

Take care Chris.

Ooh - cool work with the lighting. Very much gives a sense of depth rising up behind him, like he's heading off towards some bright place below - or even finding a way to avoid it. Nicely done with the color palette too. :)
